Quantum mechanics, or more generally known as quanta, is a scientific field that studies the behavior of particles at the atomic, nano and subatomic levels. Quanta is a form of matter that is different from the matter that we can observe in our everyday life. At this level, energy and matter no longer behave as tangible objects and instead act according to the laws of quantum physics. The field of quantum mechanics, however, is unique from other fields of science due to its strange and counterintuitive nature. For starters, quantum particles can exist in multiple states simultaneously, a phenomena known as quantum superposition. This means that a single particle, like an electron, can exist in both of its possible states at the same time. In addition, quantum particles can become entangled, meaning that their properties become correlated to each other, even though they do not come into direct contact with one another. Finally, quantum particles can move through space in an instantaneous process known as quantum tunneling. This phenomenon allows a particle to pass through an obstacle which is otherwise impassable, like a solid wall. This process is incredibly important in the fields of particle physics, chemistry and even astronomy, as it gives insight into the inner workings of molecules and nuclear reactions. Quantum mechanics is truly a remarkable and fascinating field of science, allowing us to gain a better understanding of the universe and its tiniest particles. Although the phenomena of quanta can seem counterintuitive, it is an important tool for scientists to further explore the nature of our universe.
