The coyote, a symbol of the American Wilderness and an integral part of the wildlife ecosystem, has had a long-lasting relationship with humans. With their crafty and resourceful nature, coyotes have been able to not only survive, but thrive in a variety of habitats - both wild and urbanized spaces - and even in close proximity with humans. The coyote has become an animal of admiration, curiosity, and sometimes fear. Coyotes are members of the Canidae family and are closely related to wolves, jackals and domestic dogs. They are highly adaptable creatures, able to survive in the driest or wettest places, hot or cold climates, wide open and densely populated areas. Coyotes are excellent hunters, consuming a variety of small and large animals as well as fruits, vegetables and plants when available. They will even scavenge for food when needed. When a coyote is hungry, it will use its problem-solving abilities to figure out how to obtain a meal. Interestingly, coyotes do not use the same techniques all the time. What makes them so special is their ability to come up with innovative ways to get around obstacles and outwit adversaries. Coyotes are extremely intelligent animals with a highly intricate social system which makes them one of the most beloved animals of the North American wild.
